Yarn Along: A Finished Whale

I finally finished knitting the whale I have been working on since February. Whew! It was a long project mostly because every row was different and I needed full concentration to focus on the pattern. Meaning my kids had to be asleep in bed. It was a brilliantly written knitting pattern. I found the project on Ravelry it is called Hazel the Humpback Whale.

 I brought it along for my Mother's Day trip to the ocean for a photo shoot. Maybe I should have set her free while I was there?

Now I am looking forward to knitting something colorful and easy.

New crowns at Humbleluna

Hello Friends,

Just wanted to let you know there are a few new crowns in my Etsy shop just in time for Valentine's Day.....or maybe I just needed an excuse to show of my sweet little model ;)

Yarn along: Teacher's gifts and a sock and a half...

 

Joining along with Ginny this week for the Yarn Along.

 I made a few more knit cacti as  thank you gifts for Solomon's preschool teachers. Yesterday was his last day of preschool. Bittersweet, but he will be back at the same school at the end of the summer for camp. I am so excited for because the camp is called box city and they plan and  build an entire city out of large cardboard boxes. If you only knew how much this little guy likes boxes, fort building is a daily event. So is tripping over them when trying to get from one room to another. Thanks Grandma Joan for making that happen for him!

This time I used super chunky yarn and size 10 dpn's so that the cactus would fit the bigger pots that I had on hand. Sollie ended up painting four pots because both sisters accidentally broke one when they were on the porch sitting out to dry. He was a really good sport about it and just kept painting one pot after another.I think they turned out cute. They were much bigger than the others I made back at Christmas time, they stood about 6 inches tall. You can find the super quick and easy pattern here.

 

Well I have made very little progress on my socks. When I have a little time to knit late at night when the wee ones are in bed the dark yarn and the tiny needles are just too hard to see so it has been slow going, a few rows here and there at nap time or waiting for water to boil for dinner. No rush, it is beyond wool sock weather anyway.

I am still reading Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides. I am about halfway through. I have a huge pile of novels to read for summer(thank you thrift store) so I better get a move on. Lately when I read at night my eyes cross instantly from exhaustion. Might have something to do with having three kids and a husband who works out of state. I have been fantasizing of a summer getaway, just me, a cabin near water, and a good book.....sigh. In my dreams.

Yep, flowers are budding out already:)Spring is just around the corner!

I though I would share some of my recent Valentines Day inspired crafts that I have made over the past few weeks.

This heart garland was super fun and easy to make. Solomon helped me whip this up in less than 20 minutes. The cutting of the felt was the only thing that took any time as I just sewed a straight seam through them with my machine to join them together. I double layered the hearts in contrasting colors to make them a little more interesting. A great way to use up old scraps of felt( I knew I was keeping them for a reason).




I have been holding onto this fabric for ages, not sure what to do with it. But I was inspired one day to make myself a nice elastic skirt that would fit for the last weeks of pregnancy and would be really easy to adjust the waist once I don't need as much room in the waist area. I have been busting the seams(literally) of the maternity clothing that was borrowed to me(sorry Taryn, I will fix them) so it nice to have something I can still wear at this point, just with some leggins or long johns underneath. I totally just made up the pattern. And for what it is worth I have worn it several times and still haven't cut the lose strings off..lol.
So lazy these days...where is my nesting energy this time around?
Baby is due in five days!!!!!

Crafting update and a future Giveaway!

I am getting pretty behind in sharing the crafty stuff that I have been working on lately.
I knit my nephew Riley a T-Rex for his 2nd Birthday. I used this pattern before to make Solomon's Birthday Dinosaurs a while back. I decided to omit the scary teeth, they didn't look right no matter how many times I tried, this is a friendly T-Rex.

Also the craft- along I am part of made the Easter Garden on page 25 of The Children's Year by Cooper,Fynes-Clinton and Rowling for the April craft. We planted this a week before Easter, but I am just getting to sharing mine now as it took quite a long time to sprout. We planted cat grass in ours and our cats have been enjoying it.


I have also added several pairs of light weight cotton pants in several sizes in fun prints to my Etsy shop for summer and I will be adding some skirts very soon.

A new hat......

I had to make myself a new hat because sadly I lost my Blume hat :(
I loved that hat so much and I think I may be inspired enough to make another but that hat was kind of a pain in the hind end to knit. Sock weight yarn on tiny circular needles.....well, you have to be in the right mood.
I was out looking for inspiration a few weeks ago and came across this pattern by Lisa Gentry called the "Cabled Classic". It was so much fun to knit, I loved all the little cables. It knit it up very quickly in about two days. It is keeping me warm as I ponder tackling another Blume.

When I asked Solomon what kind of cake he wanted for his Birthday, he though about it for a little while and said,"Lellow, is my favorite......a Lellow Duck Cake!". The I asked him what flavor and he rolled his eyes and said "Choc-lick" like, duh, mama, do you really need to ask.
So I looked around on-line and found this one. Ours is based off of it's design, but with marshmallow, and chocolate chip eyes and we added little feet using the little orange candies that they suggested for the mouth.
We served Sollie the head which was a separate tiny cake. I am all about healthy eating choices for my kids most of the time with the exception of the Birthday cake, we tend to forget about healthy choices for fun, sugary ones. It was hard to top last years dragon cake but this year was special because Solomon came up with the idea himself.
I look forward to sharing more birthday photos, just though this funny duck deserved his own post.
