We had a great Halloween! Papa was in town and the kids got to go out trick or treating with their friends. Ben and I did our first couples costume after 14 years as a couple. I couldn't stop laughing at him, good thing I couldn't see myself, he he.
I found all the stuff for the Cheech and Chong and Spiderman costumes at the thrift store. I made Nalah's octopus skirt and hat, Sophie's skirt and her wind up crank(cardboard and metallic paint) and a heart eye patch that she forgot to wear. It wasn't too hard to get it all done, but after sewing several costume order for my Etsy shop, Nalah and Sophie's costumes were put off until the very last minutes.
Nalah had her first experience trick or treating this year. All the houses we went to required climbing at least one flight of stairs, but she never got tired or cranky. It was so stinking adorable to watch her walk up with her little bag, I just wonder what she was thinking.
The next morning after we dropped brother off at school she wanted to walk up to all the houses to get more candy, she was pretty upset when she found out the party was over. Poor buddy. She has already forgotten about the candy. The older kids, not so much.
You just have to see my little octopus in motion....

I hope you all had a fun time this year! I am already planning costumes to make for next year :)

Halloween night!

The kids had a blast last night. The weather was dry and Solomon willingly put on his superman costume. And best of all both of the kids got to trick -or -treat with their good friends. Solomon and his "Buddyfinn" made quite the team. :) I had a great time watching them. Solomon has been talking about trick or treating with his pumpkin bag since last year. His bag was quite heavy at the end of the night and all of the houses were up a flight of stairs so he got lots of exercise. He plans to go again tonight ;)

Happy Halloween!

My pumpkin won first place at our friends pumpkin carving contest. Solomon was thrilled to find out that the prize was an alien Mr. Potato head.

Time to relax.....

(Picture from a trip with friends to the Sandy River in Oxbow park earlier in the week)

Whew, that was a crazy month of sewing! I am so thankful for all the business I have had this month at HumbleLuna. 20% of my October sales will be donated to Whatchagonnado.org to help families with a child who is battling cancer. Grateful for all the support, and grateful I can make a difference for the organization.
I made over 30 costumes this month for my Etsy shop and have finally finished Solomon's homemade superman costume and helped Sophie alter a costume she found to fit her just right. So glad she didn't need a costume from scratch this year, I don't think I could have pulled it off. It was a last minute rush to get her costume ready for the Harvest festival at her school Friday night.
Solomon chose to be superman several weeks ago and I hunted all over for a plain blue pair of long underwear and a pair of tiny red breifs to go over the top. Then he decided he wanted to be a dragon, than a spider dragon then a bat, then after I showed him his finished costume he said "Ok, Fine mom I will be superman." Not that I was pushing the superman thing, I would prefer to make a more original costume.....this is my passion after all. But after so much sewing I am just happy that they have costumes at all at this point.
Check out the gnome and the turtle from years past.
Right now I am thankful for a little time off from the sewing machine. I am hoping to get out and enjoy this beautiful autumn out in the woods at some point this weekend.
Hope you all have a pleasant Autumn weekend!

Here is the latest craftalong project from The Children's Year by Cooper,Fynes-Clinton, and Rowling. This is project # 55 on Page 71, Slippers,Sock and Baby Booties. I chose to make the booties without adding the tie, but there are several variations. I used Patons Classic Wool in the colorway Lotus. This yarn is just perfect for the fall. My son wore them to the market today and got complemented on them. I see several more projects coming soon with this pattern, It even goes up to adult sizes.

I also though I would share our latest craft project we created in my little art class, Paper Plate Spider Webs!
knitting 065

All you need for this project is a bit of yarn, a paper plate, scissors,a glue stick, a black pipe cleaner...and glitter is optional. Just cut a slit around the edge of a paper plate every inch or so.Cut a piece of yarn about a yard long. Then tie the Yarn around the plate pulling the yarn into two of the slits you made opposite form each other, then wrap the yarn around the plate anyway you chose to make your web, wrapping to the opposite slit on the plate makes the most obvious looking web. Then tie in the back when you run out of yarn. If you want to add glitter for a dewy web sparkle, rub a glue stick on the web strands and sprinkle glitter onto the plate. Then cover the web with another paper plate and carefully shake it to coat the web as much as possible. Then shake off the access glitter. The spider was made by cutting 4 equal pieces of black pipe cleaner and folding them in half and twisting all of the pieces together in the middle. Bending one of the spiders legs onto the web helps to keep it in place. This was a fun craft for the youngest friend in class who was 3 , and fun for me as well. Little crafters will need some help with this one.

Also check out the HumbleLuna Giveaway going on at Gardenmama for a chance to win this dragon tail!

The gnome and the monster girl

I absolutely love Halloween! Most of all I love making costumes for my kiddos, and after a month of planning and sewing their costumes ....I am a little stumped for what to do next...
