The Good:

The Bad:

(This is a Prince record a friend brought over, yes that is Prince riding a Pegasus.......naked.)

The Ugly:

Sweaters that is.....
Yup mine was the worst by far......isn't it hilarious?

I think Ben's was a little too small...

I normally don't have Birthday parties, I think the last one I had was when I was 19, but since the was the big 30 I though I would have a little get together.
Good drinks, bad records and ugly sweaters was the theme.
I found my sweater on the coast during my little birthday trip, in a tiny Elks Lodge thrift shop. I was so excited, I guess I am going to have to have another ugly sweater party so I can wear it again!

Illustration Sunday.....the ugly sweaters

This little illustration was inspired by my Ugly Sweater Birthday Party last night. The markers were a gift I received and my kids and I had fun breaking them in this morning. I dreamed up a few ugly sweaters, but none of them come close to the one I found for the party..... but more on that tomorrow.

For Mom's Birthday.....

I made my mom a pair of felted slippers from the Fiber Trends pattern called Felt Ballerina Slippers. I tried to make her a pair for Christmas, but when I felted them they were two very different shapes and sizes. I have tried this pattern three times and the slippers never turn out quit the same size, and when making a pair of something the same size is quite crucial. I put them in a pillow case, and washed them at high heat with low water, and a tad bit of detergent and tossed in a pair of jeans to increase agitation. Not sure what I am doing wrong.
Although this pair still has slight differences they are the closest pair by far. Felting is such fun, but also a little nerve wracking, I am never quite sure what will come out in the end.
Happy Birthday Mom! Sorry we didn't win that trip to Hawaii ;) for our big Birthdays this year....let keep trying.

Turning 30........

I am getting out of the city for a few days to celebrate my Birthday at the Ocean. Hoping for a bit of sun and some good beach combing luck, and maybe a visit to some small coastal town thrift shops. Hoping to find a little treasure either way.
Here is to 30 times around the sun!

Well I did it! I finally finished my Tea Leaves Sweater(started back in July)! I have come across so many cute sweaters lately that I want to make, but I just had to finish this first. So here it is, mismatched yarn and all, I am still pretty happy with it, it fits and it is very warm. Although I have only wore it once it is starting to pill pretty badly already, probably cause it took me 8 months to knit it,does anyone have suggestions for this? Should I buy a sweater lint shaver? To read more about my trials and errors with this sweater see here.

Illustration Sunday.....

This is a sketch I did this week using a photo of Tasha Tudor for a reference. She is a huge inspiration for me, a real mentor. I watch the movie Take Joy whenever I need a boost of inspiration. I only recently discovered Tasha, after art school when a mom at the park asked me if I knew of her work. It is just amazing how similar she is to the character I created in my story(the one I am working to get published). The character in my story is an elderly woman named Dahlia and she has a love for gardening and preforms secret marionette shows at the farmers market for children where she sells her flowers. After finding out about Tasha and leaning about her life it was as if Dahlia came alive. Now I have a perfect real life reference for developing Dahlia's character.

Speaking of inspiration,I came across this beautiful book at a church sale this weekend.

Aren't these illustrations just lovely?

I have seen so many cute sweaters that I want to make on Ravelry , but I am forcing myself to finish what I have started. I look forward to sharing some knitting soon.

A few weeks ago I came across this beautiful book in a book store called An Illustrated Life, so I checked it out from the local library, naturally. This book is a glimpse into the private sketchbooks of several different artist. I was humbled when I came across the pages of a friend whom I graduated with, and another few pages taken by one of my former teachers. Both of them truly deserve to be in this book , both of them are constantly sketching and fill book after book with their beautiful drawings, some no one may ever see.
So naturally finding this book inspired me to get going on my own sketch book.
I used to be really great at keeping a sketch book and was always drawing, but this was in high school, for some reason when I was in art school and we were required to keep one and even got graded on them, I stopped doing it on my own, maybe it's the rebel in me. But now would just be the perfect time to fall in love with keeping a sketch book once again, I Look forward to sharing my sketches here with you. (Please forgive the dark photos of my book, I am hoping to get a scanner soon.)
