Birthday trip (warning photo overload!)

We spent the weekend on the coast for a little early birthday celebration. Ben is stuck doing jury duty today(my actual b-day).There was a special treasure hunt going on, glass sand dollars were hidden on the beach. We didn't find any but Sophie and I gave it a good shot(there was quite a bit of competition. We walked ...and walked, and walked, and we couldn't have had better weather. Sunshine is the best treasure for us Oregonians in my opinion...... and we found a lot of that.
Solomon was happy with the room, or at least happy to get out of the car.

A little bit of knitting was done...

Now that is a piece of driftwood!

Sophie enjoying the sand with bare toes.Sidewalk art...

Waiting for dinner at Humble Pie pizzeria.

More sidewalk art...(sollie calls them "Mangoes")

a beach dwelling?...

Searching for hidden treasure ...

Yes, barefoot in February!

Effortless kite flying weather!

P.S. I got a camera too! case you didn't notice...he..he

R.I.P my little pink Sony.....

Things may be a little dark around here as far a pictures go, due to the death of my camera. The tape was no longer doing it's job after Sollie announced to me one day last week when he was momentarily unattended......"Mama,...boke cama," and then handed me several pieces with a sad look on his face. Afterall, he used it as much as I did.
But I feel lost without one. I really did use it on a daily basis and it was a good camera getting me through my final years of art school and obsesive use after Solomon was born, and documenting my life on this little blog.
At first this camera was a source of embarassment due to it's pink color...... however it's pink color also made it 50$ cheaper ...so it is the one I came home with. I got over it though. Now I feel a little sentimental. Maybe I would even consider burying it in the yard, but I am pretty sure it is toxic......
I think I shall post a few pictures that S0llie has taken with it over the next few days.
Hopefully it won't be too long before we are in action once again.

Valentines Day wreath

Link

Sophie and I made this fun fabric wreath inspired by a tutorial on GardenMama's blog. It was quick, easy and fun to do. I feel inspired to make one for every holiday now. It is also a good way to use up some of my fabric stash.

Envy

I am so very green...............let me tell you why.
Imagine this...An artist, who's work you truly admire, is coming to your town to teach a class on something you are very, very interested in pursuing, possibly even as a career......teaching not only a class but a 4 day workshop.......not only coming to your town, but to your school, the college you graduated from..........Now,this workshop is very expensive, but is not until summer.....so if you worked very, very hard.....there could possibly be a chance....that you could do it.
Daydream about it for a few days.......then stumble upon a blogger who is posting about how thrilled she is to be going.......then feel a little jealous......then look up the workshop online again just read the details for the 10th time...only to find that..................................IT IS FULL.............
then feel sorry for yourself and your bad luck..........and write a whiny blog post.

Small Beauties

Today was so beautiful (weather-wise) that I though I would bring my camera along on our daily hike. There are signs of spring everywhere.(Did you notice the flower in my banner has an aura?) We found our first dandelion and I was thrilled to see that bee happily at work, and in February! Where I grew up February has a very bad reputation, my birthday is in February, so I think I took the criticism a little too personally as a kid.
It was sunny and so warm, the birds were happily singing and jumping in puddles. Everything was so hopeful, I really needed today.

Craftalong project#1 Needle Case

I am participating in a craftalong using the lovely book, The Children's Year by Cooper,Fynes-clinton and Rowling. Please click on the link(craftalong 2010) on my sidebar for more information on the craftalong.
I am a little behind for the first project for January. I just purchased the book yesterday at a cute local Waldorf shop, but I got started right away and after a few hours (in between dinner and bedtimes) it was finished!
This project was so much fun and almost instant gratification. I can see this needle case coming in handy for traveling .....maybe for a weekend yurt camping at the coast.
I modified the pattern a little adding a loop and button closure rather than the ties. The yarn is a bit of Noro leftover from Solomons Birthday present.

Gypsy Rose Cover contest...take three!

Hi, I just wanted to share my entry for the Gypsy Rose Magazine cover contest(sorry for the bad photo). This is my third try. It started out as an art school joke...but now I am determined to keep trying until I win. I tried to make it as hippie dippie as I could, they seem to go for that.
Wish me luck...third times a charm right?
