Brown thumb......

I have seen so many beautiful harvest pictures out in blog land. I though I would share mine, not to impress you with all of its glory and abundance, but rather for a good laugh.
This would be an impressive harvest if I was a faerie, but sadly I am not. I had good intentions when I planted my garden this spring and early summer and I did my best to make sure it was watered and loved during the driest days of summer and taken care of by others when I was too sick to get out of bed at the begging of this pregnancy.
I am a horrible gardener, it is true. The top picture is our cucumbers, the strangest shaped things I have ever seen resembling weird tiny gourds. And the carrots would have been perfect if my family and I were 6 inches tall, the largest carrot we produced was thumb sized, the rest were the teeniest carrots one could ever imagine...like baby faerie sized.
While the carrots were growing, the tops that stuck out were large and impressive suggesting that a normal sized carrot was indeed growing underneath the earth, but as you grabbed to pull up these chubby orange beauties you would discover that they were only an inch long.....what a tease.
I am pretty good at growing weird tiny fruits and vegetables I guess...check out our strawberries from a few years ago.
It is still fun to try and I am not going to give up yet. I would love to get into canning and putting food by in the future. I have got a long way to go before that happens. It's okay to laugh, I won't be offended. These things take time.

I'm not going to laugh, I'm going to say thank god I'm not the only one who tries their darndest to have a successful garden yet only harvests itsy bitsy amounts of food! Maybe there's a group for people like us... hehe. :)

Aw, lol! I know exactly what you mean. While our zucchini did very well, our tomatoes & green peppers, smallest ever and not much. Ah, well. Next year is a clean slate!

Oh, but your cucumbers and carrots look so cute! You could think of them as miniture varieties. Jacinta

Hey, what ever happened to *Nouvelle Cuisine?!* I remember the itty-bitty servings, tiny portions, elaborately served little foods... you could bring it back, serve a niche!

Heidi, This post is so very "humble" indeed! I did lagh a little, though it was with you and not at you! I love gardening and have long given up any expectations ~ anything worthwhile is a gift. I've had many stunted veggies (beets! onions! peppers! cukes!)and then the next year they flourish. Go figure! I admire your humour, it's all youu can do really:)

Our grand garden plans were a bit disappointing when it came to the harvest...
Now the question really is - how did those sweet carrots taste?

it is not your brown thumb, just a brown portland growing year (or at least that is what I keep telling myself!)
