Bubble Printing....
Every Wednesday afternoon I teach a little arts and crafts class for kids. This week we did bubble prints and they were so pretty I though I would share them here with you. This is my first experience with bubble printing, I have never heard of it before a few weeks ago. I know I would have used this painting technique while I was in art school. I think it is so beautiful and fun too.
All you do is mix a bit of paint( a tsp , if that) with liquid soap and a tablespoon or so of water into a dish or bowl and blow into it with a straw until the bubbles are exploding over the top of your container. Then stamp you paper over the top and the bubbles will pop leaving beautiful prints. We used acrylic paint but I am sure tempra and liquid watercolor would work just as well.
Make sure the kids you are crafting are old enough to blow, not suck into the straw. Blowing lightly works best, one little girl left craft time with a face full of purple freckles.

Oregon Flock and Fiber Festival
I was looking forward to this festival all year and I am so happy we had such beautiful weather for it. My kids were very patient with me and really enjoyed seeing the animals. I did too. I absolutely love them. There was also a lamb cook off and I just can't imagine seeing these sweet little faces as food.
I am grateful we are not tied down to a house in the city because I really find myself falling out of love with traffic and crowds... and more and more in love with the idea of a piece of land and a few loyal fiber giving animals, that I will never ever eat. Maybe I can start a lamb and goat rescue?

my Blume hat....
I wanted to share my newly finished Blume Hat from the fall issue of Knitscene magazine. I used Madelinetosh fingering weight yarn in "Burnished" colorway. Making a hat in fingering weight yarn is very slow going and I managed to break two pairs of bamboo circluar needles. What is wrong with my knitting these days? All this yarn and needle drama!
Oh and speaking of knitting problems remember this one?, The yarn I have been waiting for to finish my Tea Leaves sweater came in stock at a local yarn shop. I raced over as soon as I could with my sweater in hand and guess what?? No luck, The colorway is way different than my sweater...and way different from my on-line yarn purchase.Such a bummer. Learn from me people. Never, ever buy 4 out of 5 balls of yarn and expect to ever find a matching skein out there. I have noticed that Madeline tosh dye lots are so varied. I may never get this fixed. What an expensive mistake this has become!

wANdErING wEDnesdaY......
We wandered out of the city for a drive in the country. Not sure where we were going, we were just trying to capture the last moments of the summer...somewhere out in the woods.
We discovered a beautiful hidden gem of a park....on a winding road out towards the mountains. There was a rocky creek running through the park and my children and I jumped from stone to stone. It was great fun and luckily my camera fits in my back pocket, so I took this shot on a stone in the middle of the creek.
I have just noticed all of the wanderings I have posted are in water!
I'm drawn to it, what can I say?

On her first day of 4th grade...
We celebrated Sophie's first day of school with her favorite dinner, homemade mac and cheese...and brownies for desert. Her Uncle Cory and our good friend Willie who was visiting from out of town joined us as well.
She had a fantastic first day and her teacher sounds like a really cool guy. There is much to look forward to this year!
